COMMERCIAL MOTOR'S sponsorship of the Lorry Driver of the Year competition, which began in 1963, will be terminated in March next year. From then LDoY will be financed by a form of shareholding. Each share will have a value of £250.
CM rescued LDoY when Government auditors to Coventry City Council ruled that it could not use ratepayers' money to finance a national competition.
The Finance Committee of the LDoY issued the following statement: "While CM has always supported the concept of LDoY there has been a feeling that the content of the competition and the final venue are not sufficiently attractive to get the road safety message over to the size of audience it merits."
