Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LONDON Regional Transport's Chiswick workshop is reckoned to be saving about 1,200 man hours and £6,000 a year by using CR Industries' Speedi-Sleeves for reconditioning AEC Routemaster engine and gearbox shafts.

Graham Walker, LAT's development engineer (mechani cal), has quantified the time saving of the Speedi-Sleeve method of shaft reconditioning over the traditional method of machining the oil-seal rubbing surface, rebuilding with spray metal and grinding to size.

"This would take 31 minutes (per shaft) at a cost of £9.90. Fitting a Speedi-Sleeve takes two minutes and costs 0.50 for this application."

Speedi-Sleeves are made of chromium plated, 300-grade stainless steel and are available to suit around 150 different shaft diameters ranging from 0.498in to 8.005in. LRT has been using Speedi-Sleeves for about five years.
