Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LONDON Regional Transport's bus operating business, London Buses, has reached an agreement with the Transport and General Workers' Union for a step-by-step extension of one-person operation.

At present 53 per cent of London buses are one-person operated and a further 11 routes are to be converted in February next year.

Despite 515 conductor jobs becoming surplus to requirements, there will be no compulsory redundancies.

Most conductors will have a choice of voluntary redundancy, transfer to other routes, redeployment or retraining as drivers.

LRT is planning further conversions in the next few years and is aiming for 75 per cent o-p-o by 1987.
