has been appointed managing director of UML, Port Sunlight, in succession to JAMES DUCKWORTH, who takes up a London-based position as senior liaison officer of the Unilever Overseas Committee.
From 1973 to 1977 Mr Byrnes worked in Unilever Transport co-ordination in Rotterdam. He subsequently moved to Barcelona as chairman of the Unilever Spanish Transport Group. At the end of 1979 he returned to England, to the board of the SPD group, later becoming director of General Freight International, the international transport and port activities company.
