SCOTTISH Bus Group ha: been thrown into disarray bl the Traffic Commissioners refusal of its latest applicatiot for increased fares.
Traffic Commissioners chairman, Hugh McNamara announced the decision onl.± 40 minutes after going int( recess at the end of a two(La] hearing in Edinburgh las week.
SBG had wanted to rais( fares by 3p on 26p-92p fares and 2.5 per cent on highe fares. This would have been it third increase this year.
Mr McNamara told SBG "Unless increased publi( financial support can be mad( available, the commissioner: will have to look sym pathetically, although realist! cally, at any new applicatior which may be made."
Fife Regional Council wa: one of the main objectors tr the application, as it felt thai local company Alexandei (Fife) was in a healthy enougl state not to need another in crease this year.
SBG says it expects to hay( to lodge a substantial increas( application early next year but is reviewing its strategy ir the light of the Commis sioners' decision.
