Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

irs ly, I would like to congraturte Commercial Motor for an xcellent Fleet Management :ontference on October 24.

Unfortunately, I was one of le unlucky delegates unable to aply to Mr David Buckle's aper and comments rithediately following his adress. I was particularly inters* on his views regarding westments in technology.

I would like to point out to Mr iuckle through your excellent iagazine my views regarding lisi issue.

Mr Buckle spoke of his visit to in Germany with great zest hich he observed a worker

n bn assembly line fitting a ilv

o to a car whilst a machine tt d the remaining three. Is this ot hat Mr Edwardes at British ey and is trying to achieve but an ot convince the unions he is g t? If Mr Buckle expects large iv stments in new machinery e must expect fewer jobs iit in the industry.

he definition of managele t I believe is "Achievement ir ugh people". This definition yould change dramatically if the westments proposed by Mr iuCkle were adhered to, and the Jture definition of management iould read "Achievement "'rough machines," which I am ure would dissatisfy Mr Buckle n his union and would lead to id stria! strife once more.

I believe in investments and I lsd believe in people, but surely flr Buckle you cannot.expect on 1 ne hand a massive investment ro ramme and in the other to xp ct the industry to retain the a e amount of workforce as ou union has implied at Leyin and you yourself implied at he Fleet Management Con?.r nce.
