LABOUR MP's call for lorry weights ) be held down has been criticised by ie two main road haulage bodies.
MP Walter Johnson said: "Every vailable Parliamentary device should e used to fight a reported Government Ian allowing larger lorries to use ritish roads."
A Road Haulage Association spokesian told CM: "He should get his facts .ght before making such sweeping generalisations."
And he added: "There is an irrefutable case for heavy lorries and remarks such as his are somewhat premature."
The Freight Transport Association renewed its support for an independent public inquiry into the issue of lorry weights, and added that FTA was still basically in favour of an increase in weights beyond the present 32 ton gvw limit.
