INVESTIGATIONS into the SpaniSh tanker disaster have shown that the most likely explanation is that the tanker was over filled during the night so that there was little or no vapour space above the liquid.
Bradford University safety services director Victor Marshall says that during the following day the contents of the tank warmed up and the thermal expansion produced the high pressure necessary to split it open.
