THE NEW range of vehicles from the VW/MAN Corporation will definitely appear at the Frankfurt Show in September 1979.
This was confirmed by Otto Voisard, chairman of MAN, speaking at a press conference in Munich.
The range will cover the 6-9 tons gross weight category for which two engines will be available: a four-cylinder unit with an output of 91bhp and a 6 cylinder unit of 101kW (136bhp).
Although few details of the new vehicles were released it was revealed, however, that they will have a tilt cab, which the current LT does not have.
MAN is working on a turbocharged version of the six-cylinder engine to develop 127kW (170bhp). This is intended not for the VW/MAN but for installation in a White chassis for the US market.
The agreement between MAN and White is for the two companies to combine to produce a vehicle for US classes 6 and 7 which cover the 9 to 15 ton weight category approximately.
