Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

M23 inquiry

A PUBLIC inquiry may be held to decide whether or not the Hooley-Mitcham northern extension of the M23 will be built.

Transport Minister William Rodgers has published a draft scheme and order to remove the statutory authority for the route and related side road developments between Hooley and Woodmansterne.

Objections may be filed up to December 22.

Ml third lane

RELIEF is at hand for the notorious BreakspearsBerrygrove section of the M1 motorway in Hertfordshire, which is to be widened from two to three lanes.

Transport Under-Secretary John Horam announced last week that the scheme would be progressed without the new interchanges at Beechtrees, Breakspears, and Waterdale.

He said: "This is the notorious two-lane section of the MI. It is heavily overloaded, especially, at peak time, and much used by commercial vehicles. Driving on it can be very unpleasant."

EEC grant

NORTHERN Irish motor mechanics are to benefit from European Social Fund grants for vocational training activities.

The United Kingdom share of the £110m allocation is £16.5m, and £24,008 is being set aside for 60 young persons who are first job-seekers in Northern Ireland.

Dover expanding

GROWTH of road haulage traffic through Dover is still growing, with the annual rate for the first nine months of this year up by 10.5 per cent.

In September, 39,083 commercial vehicles used Dover, compared to 36,194 last year. This was an increase of almost eight per cent.

There has also been a nine per cent increase in the ferry services between Dover and French and Belgium ports during the first three quarters of 1978.
