A SCHEME to protect immigrants from the depredations of shady removers officially comes into force on January 1. It is being launched by the Overseas Group of the British Association of Removers.
It follows tragic cases in which immigrants have paid in advance for furniture removals and, on arriving at their dedestinations, have found that they have lost both their money and their possessions.
"From January I, all members of the Overseas Group will be able to offer customers to pay in advance a guarantee that their money is protected," group chairman Michael Scott announced in London on Monday.
The bond scheme is backed by substantial insurance interest. CM understands that support for it will be a condition of membership of the Group.
