Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Members of the public and bodies representing them were advised on Monday evening to contact the Road Haulage Association at an early stage for help in solving problems with which the heavy lorry was concerned.

The advice came from Mr Stuart Harvey (Harvey Bros (Transport) Ltd, Coningsby), chairman of the RHA Boston sub-area. He was addressing a meeting — called by the sub-area — of about 150 local councillors, road safety chairmen and officers, and representatives of the police and of local organizations such as Women's Institutes.

"Whatever your opinion of the heavy lorry, it is here to stay", RHA public relations officer Mr Frank Lyon told the Boston meeting. He suggested a positive approach, in which road operators and the public could join forces to call for a proper road network.

He deplored the impression sometimes given, in defiance of the statistics, that lorries were becoming more numerous and more dangerous.

A panel, including area chairman Mr G. Pell, answered questions from the floor.

It is hoped that similar meetings will be arranged in other sub areas throughout the country. The RHA believes that action of this kind at local level will help to stifle, at source, the misconceptions about the lorry.
