Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Up to 100 lorry drivers, on strike from Dunfermline's two biggest haulage contractors, were sacked last Friday. M. A. Wilson and Sons, Townhill, dismissed all 45 of their drivers, claiming that they had been in breach of contract by taking strike action.

And 15 more drivers, employed by John Hutchinson and Son, Woodmill Road, received their cards soon after. The men are all members of the TGWU which called out all its haulage drivers in Fife a week previously.

Wilsons refused to comment on the dispute. The strikers promised to put the company out of business, unless the 45 drivers were reinstated.

Later the strike led to late-night swoops by police on the homes of eight drivers. They were taken to the local station for questioning about an incident in which a lorry had its windscreen and mirror smashed. They were allowed home after being cleared.

The haulage strike involves some 300 drivers in Fife, who are demanding a basic wage of £25.85 for a 40-hour week, and up to £28.60 for men driving lorries over 21 tons.
