ALBION'S newest range is the Chieftain 51 which includes four four-wheeler haulage models and two for tipper applieation. All are plated for 13.5 tons gross weight for operation in the UK but overseas their gross rating is 13 tons. Also on the Albion stand: a Super Clydesdale tractive unit which is now plated for 22 tons gross train weight and an Albion Viking rear-engined singledecker with Alexander 40-seat body.

The Chieftain 51 retains the pre-Ergomade Leyland/Albion cab and is powered by a Leyland 0.370 diesel. Standard trans mission is through an Albion five-speed constant-mesh gearbox with the options of overdrive and/or splitter section. Like all current Albions the rear axle is a doublereduction unit with secondary reduction in the hubs.

Air-pressure braking on the 51 employs split circuits and there is a multi-pull hand brake for parking. The actual model exhibited is a tipper chassis and it is being displayed with Edbro tipping gear.

The Super Clydesdale tractive unit is a development of the model first introduced in 1965 and while its gross train weight rating for the UK is 22 tons, here again there is a reduction when sold in overseas markets—the limit is 20 tons.
