Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

UNKIND people used to say that good fresh air was the only free thing to be found at the average seaside resort. In these days ensuring that the air is anywhere near fresh is more of a problem than in times gone by. In many places specific checks now have to be made on the situation.

With this work in mind a mobile air quality laboratory, carried on a Ford Transit chassis, was shown at the recent Clean Air Conference. The particular unit had just completed a tour of Western Europe and is to be seen at major centres in Britain during the next few weeks.

The maker, Beckman Instruments Ltd., of Glenrothes, Fifeshire, has a parent company near Los Angeles, where there are serious smog problems. Apart from providing analyzers for air pollution, Beckman also deals with automotive exhausts' quality measurement.

A feature of the vehicle shown is the use of indicators for wind direction, velocity and temperature, the object being to facilitate pinpointing of the source of any pollutants.
