Our trucks must be reliable
"There were lots of very good reasons for choosing Ford. We deliver highly perishable goods over a very wide area —the whole of Scotland and parts of the North of England. Our biscuits go as far south as St. Austell-500 miles away. So our trucks must be reliable. That's the first reason.
They make money. ... save money "Next—cost. Not just price, although that's important; we're more concerned with operating costs. Our seventy Dseries Fords clock up a pretty impressive mileage—up to 75,000 miles a year in some cases. And with no more than a monthly inspection and a complete check every three months or 6,000 miles, they stay on the road, earning money, day after day. Extremely popular with our drivers "Driver acceptability is our third reason for going Ford. This is tremendously important. Anything that can be done to ease our drivers' problems automatically increases the amount of selling we do. And our Fords, with their private-car handling and cab comfort, are ideal. The specially designed Cravens Homalloy bodies have 'up-and-over' doors at the rear and sliding doors at the sides. Thus both cab and body make the driver's job as easy and pleasant as possible. Easy maintenance "And last, maintenance itself. We do all our own servicing, and with a fleet the size of ours, every minute counts. The ease and speed with which the D-series cab can be tilted, and excellent access generally, make things so much easier.
"Those are four genuine reasons for our choice. Our Fords more than meet the demands we make on them. They're doing an excellent job."
