WILLIAM D. INNES, who was born in Aberdeen in 1921, is becoming executive vice-president, Ford US, on the retirement of fellow-Scot Charles H. Patterson, who went to America in 1922. Mr. Innes has been with Ford since 1940 and in 1965 took charge of the engine, transmission and parts group. And retiring on this side of the Atlantic is another Scot, A. J. ("Andy") Taylor, deputy managing director of Ford of Britain since 1965.

Further members have been appointed to the Transport Users Consultative Committee for the South Western Area. They are: C. H. Preece, retired executive of Western National Omnibus Co.; Mrs. C. B. Kaye; Mrs. M. Salisbury; Mrs. D. E. Liddieoat; the Rev. A. R. W. Gray; K. Dark.

Olaf Lambert, 42, the AA's deputy director of operations since 1959, has moved up to become director on the retirement of G. J. ("Bob") Ryan this week. Mr. Ryan, who started his AA career as an Eastbourne bicycle patrolman in 1922, had been director of operations since 1965.

A. E. Maiden has been appointed manager sales and technical services. Laystall Cromard Ltd.

D. W. Allvvork has been appointed general parts and service manager, Cummins Diesel Sales and Service Ltd., and will be based at Northampton. He will co-ordinate the technical service department under its manager, J. E. Ingram, and the parts department under E. E. J. Sampson. J. H. Gilbert has been appointed general manager of the East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd. as from April 1 1968, in succession to R. G. James who will be retiring at the end of March; at an earlier date, yet to be fixed, Mr. Gilbert will join the company as deputy general manager. He is at present general manager of The South Wales Transport Co. Ltd. J. J. D. Braithwaite has been appointed road transport engineer, Silver Roadways Ltd., in succession to P. S. Gibbs, who has retired.

Peter Kemp, TATA chairman of the Carlisle area, has been elected a vice-chairman of the Northern division. Mr. Kemp is transport manager of W. B. Anderson and Sons Ltd.

Leonard L. Ward, for the past two years with W. Smith (Haulage) Ltd., of Devonshire-road, Leicester, has been appointed a director. He is also on the board of an associate company, Rearsby Tipping Co. Ltd.

Cyril Drake, distribution division manager, The Tunnel Portland Cement Co., at a luncheon to mark his 50 years with the company, was presented with a Georgian silver tankard by Tunnel chairman, Carl Hagerup.

Reginald Lee, a claims officer for East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd., has retired after 41 years with the firm. In 1922 he joined his father in the firm of Lee and Beaulah, one of the four companies which were combined to form EYMS in 1926.

Leonard C. Greening, 45, marketing manager. aide and Kathanode batteries division, Electric Power Storage Ltd., becomes sales and marketing director from December 1. He succeeds M. A. Griffiths-Jones who is leaving to join Holt Products Ltd. as managing director.

Ian Foster, 30, has been appointed assistant London area sales manager, Small and Parkes Ltd.

We regret to record the death last week of Sir Arthur Algeo, 64, chairman of the Ulster Transport Authority since 1963. Son of a railwayman mayor of Enniskillen, he entered a large Ballymoney business which gave him an insight into distribution problems, and in 1952 was appointed to the LTTA board. Only last month he was reappointed LJTA chairman for a further term. He was knighted in June this year.
