REASONS for the £884,000 drop in Loudon Transport's traffic receipts are put forward by Lord Latham, chairman of the London Transport Executive, in a .personal letter to the staff for 1950. This fall, he says, which was under one per cent., was entirely because of the decline in week-end travel. Money is shorter and as there are more goods in the shops, people tend to spend more on food, clothes and other interests than on travel.
"This fall in passenger receipts," he states, ' has a lesson for us all, and it is that by adequate services, courtesy and comfort we must stimulate the use of our services ... and we must ensure that each passenger pays his proper fare."
