ACONTENTION that a bus service ratified under a private Act of Parliament in 1913 had been running without authority for 20 years, because the Road Traffic Act, 1930, overrode the 1913 provisions, was recently put before the Northern Licensing Authority, Mr. S. W. Nelson.
Newcastle-on-Tyne Transport Department had applied for permission to extend a service. and United Automobile Services, Ltd., objected, stating that if the application were successful an injunction would be sought, as it concerned a service operated outside the city boundary.
Mr. Nelson said that he was instructed to accept as legitimate a service existing before 1930 by virtue of a private Act, without subsequent sanction by the Licensing Authority. He granted the application.
