Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT is learned that the Rolls-Royce I four-, sixand eight-cylindered petrol engines are to be standardized for military wheeled vehicles and for certain tracked units. Previously, with a variety of power units. Army workshops carried up to 3,000 separate stores items for engines, but by limiting the range to three units, having many parts in common, it will be necessary to carry only 300 separate spares.

It is understood that apart from the Nuffield Mechanization version of the Jeep, which is to be assembled in the Austin works, the other standardized vehicles will consist of a 1-tonner with the 11.40 engine, a 3-tonner powered by the 13.60 and a 10-tonner six-wheeler employing the Rolls-Royce 13.80 eightcylindered unit. The power output of these engines is governed to 80 b.h.p., 120 b.h.p. and 160 b.h.p. respectively. It is rumoured in authoritative circles that the new standardized vehicles will be made by Rootes, Bedford and Leyland.
