Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Mall method of converting orthodox .1 four-wheelers into rigid trailingaxle six-wheelers, as employed succesafully by the Baico concern for a considerable time, is suitable for almost any of the well-known makes, such as Bedford, Chevrolet, Ford, Willys Manchester, Guy or Dennis.

Whereas some concerns catering for this conversion work employ one semielliptic spring on each side, either in the normal position with support to the frame at two points, or in the inverted position with support at one point, the Baits) method makes use of two semi

elliptic springs on each side, the drivingaxle spring being over-mounted and the trailing-axle spring underslung, so that support is afforded to the frame at three points on each side.

Although the bogie wheelbase is short, the springs used are long, this desirable feature being the result of allowing.sthem to overlap. Their adjacent ends are connected by a shackle and a balance lever, the latter being pivoted on a cross tube. The rear end of each trailing-axle spring is linked to the frame by a long shackle. The system is one which has been tried out during a long period by haulage concerns favouring the rigid six-wheeler, and it has had considerable success.

The Baico-Scott forward-control conversion is another chassis modification explained by an exhibit on this stand. This conversion . renders : vehicle, suitable for. carrying 'comparatively light, but unduly. bulky, loads. and it results in. a greater proportion of • the load resting upon the front axle. .

The Baieo patent Extenda and the Britex stabilizer complete the company's display. These outfits afford supplementary springing for such chassis as the Ford and are intended for vehicles that are engaged on specially difficult work which would be rather severe upon standard chassis.—Baico Patents, Ltd., 327-329, High Road, Chiswick, London, W.4.,
