A trucking good time

I’ve just spent most of the weekend at Truckfest, where I was helping out on the Truck & Driver stand.
My lasting memory of the show (in addition to witnessing a rather large, stiletto-wearing, tattoo-clad woman effing and blinding at the top of her voice when she sank up to her ‘cankles’ in the mud) will be the incredible popularity of Mark Dixon. If I didn’t know better, I’d have assumed he was a Hollywood star and not a Stobart driver! But thanks to
Eddie Stobart: Trucks and Trailers, he was one of the biggest attractions of the show.
He signed thousands of autographs, posed for photographs with countless fans and didn’t complain once – what a fantastic ambassador for the industry.
Also signing autographs on the T&D stand was EM Rogers driver Stuart Barnes, winner of TV’s World’s Toughest Trucker. At one point, both men were joined by Ice Road Truckers’ star Lisa Kelly – three of the
world’s most famous truck drivers in one place. I got
them all to sign a copy of T&D, so if you’ve got any
children, grandchildren, nephews or nieces who are
into their celeb drivers, why not make us an offer? Whoever emails me (will.shiersra roadtransport.com) with the highest offer of a donation for Help for Heroes by 17 May gets the magazine.
On the subject of Help for Heroes, T&D’s Pimp My Truck Scania is almost ready – and it already looks fantastic. It will be auctioned soon, and will hopefully raise a lot of money for the charity. SB Components has just chequer-plated the rear chassis, and all it needs now is a decent set of mudguards. So if you happen to have a decent set of guards for a 6x2 4-Series, please get in touch with T&D editor Colin Barnett (colin.barnettraroadtransport.com). Will Shiers
