Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WINCANTON has confirmed that 180 drivers are set to lose their jobs when its depots atTewkesbury, Glos. and Ross-on-Wye, Hereford close next month.

The closures, which were first revealed earlier this year (CM 8 February), are due to a re-organisation of distribution for supermarket chain Somerfield. It is understood that 26 drivers have already found new jobs, and that the departure of the remainder could be staggered in the run-up to the closure.

Some drivers might take redundancy and work for Wincanton again at other depots, although legally there has to be a gap before this can happen.

A spokesman for the T&G section of new super union Unite says: "We were disappointed that we weren't able to stop the redundancies, but what we were able to do was negotiate a muchimproved redundancy deal."
