AviaTrucks.formerly Daewoo, will be showing its brand new l2-tonner.This provides a useful extension of the brand's portfolio. It's best known for its 7.5-tonners, but is already covering the range from 6,200 to 9,000kg GVVV, as well as fielding a lightweight tractor unit.

Although the name may not be familiar over here, the driveline components, including Cummins engines, are well established European products. As well as the usual day cabs, crew cabs are also available.

As with Avia, ISUTLITruck is in the process of expanding its range up the weight scale, but its I 2-tonner won't arrive until next year. For now, the range stops at 7.5 tonnes, where the Easyshift automated gearbox version now offers the same six gears as the manual model.

Still in the forward-control chassis-cab market, albeit at 3.5 tonnes. Nissan and Renault will be debuting their respective amtenders. The latest Cabstar is a totally redesigned update of Nissan's well established favourite, while Renault's offering is the Maxity, sold in the UK by Renault Trucks. The range includes two cab and three wheelbase options, all powered by Nissan's impressive three-litre engine.

Alongside the new Maxity, the big story on the Renault Truck stand will be the debut of the Premium Lander tractor, designed for on and off-road applications.

Scania will be promoting its range of engines for third-party industrial applications, as well as a selection of P and R-Series trucks.

Hino's on a roll

lowever, the star performer in the construction heavy truck market at the moment is the Japanese Hino brand.currently on a roll and mopping up much of the business left behind by Foden. Hino is also engaged in moving into new sectors. As well as its traditional 8x4 tipper. it will be showing tipper, mixer and hook-loader models, including 6x4s, and its 4x2 tractor unit.

lveco's newly revised Stralis AS3. with its new livery-friendly styling and improved driver accommodation, was a star of the CV Show. Rut if you missed it there will be another chance to see it at SED.

lveco hopes its latest Trakker 8x4 construction chassis, with improvements to match the new Stralis, will arrive in time to make its UK debut at SED.

There's barely a market sector in which DaimlerChrysler isn't represented. The Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star will appear on vehicles as diverse as the Sprinter chassiscab and Actros tractor unit, with the Mitsubishi Ft's° Canter and Unimog U5000 completing the extended family line-up.

To experience the off-roaders in challenging conditions, Ford, Mitsubishi and Nissan will be providing vehicles for the popular 4x4 Zone, as well as having their latest models on static display. In the light van arena, Ford. Renault and Vauxhall will be among the manufacturers displaying their standard models along with plenty of approved conversions. • • SED 2007, Rockingham Motor Speedway, near Corky, Northants, 22-24 May.
