Vehicle maintenance and drivers' hours problems have led to the licence held by Wimbome. Dorset-based Keith Martin, trading as Europoul, being cut to two vehicles and one trailer for five days at a Bristol disciplinary inquiry.

Western Deputy Traffic Commissioner Fiona Richards granted Martin's application to reduce his licence thereafter from six vehicles and four trailers to th ree vehicles and one trailer.

The Deputy TC called on Vosa to make a further maintenance investigation within 12 months, including an inspection of third-party tachograph analysis reports received by Martin since the public inquiry.

She required Martin to provide evidence of financial standing for the number of vehicles authorised on the licence in six months' time.

A company that continued to operate vehicles following the liquidation of two predecessor companies by using another company's licence has been granted a licence.lt had been given until the end of April to prove it could comply with the law.

Bury-based Swinnerton Environmental had sought a new three-vehicle restricted licence.

Last October, North-Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell granted the company/ interim authority, saying she was in effect putting the company on probation. She said she would be asking Vosa to crawl all over the vehicles and records, and would also be asking for accounts on an annual basis to make sure this was not a company that would go under again (CM 19 October 2006). When she extended the interim authority at the end of March, the TC said a vehicle examiner had reported that the maintenance arrangements were satisfactory, but a traffic examiner had a number of concerns (CM12 April).

When the case came back before the TC last week, she was satisfied with all aspects of the operation.

Orkney warnings

Two Isle of Orkney-based operators have been given a formal warning about their vehicle maintenance standards by Scottish Traffic Commissioner Joan Aitken.

Eric Shortland, trading as Rousay Deliveries, of Rousay, and Sarah and John Rendall, trading as SR&J Rendall, of Westray, had been called before the TC at a Kirkwall disciplinary inquiry.
