• highland Regional Council's Direct Labour Organisation has beaten off competition from the private sector to retain vehicle and plant maintenance contracts worth £12,65m over the next four years.
Philip Shinunin, the council's senior deputy director of roads and transport, says he is delighted with the outcome of the compulsory competitive tendering process, which safeguarded the jobs of the 50-strong DLO workforce.
