• Farceline's Australian parent company Mayne Nickless has acquired a 70% share in the Dutch-based general haulier and distributor, Heijden En Zonen, which runs 100 vehicles out of four depots in Holland, Belgium, Germany and France and operates throughout Europe and the Eastern Bloc.
Most of its work involves contract warehousing and distribution, mainly for the confectionery industry.
It has a major contract with Mars and handles temperaturecontrolled work, including a deal with the French vegetable supplier Bonduelle.
There are no plans to change the company name, and all 350 staff will keep their jobs. Mayne Nickless plans to look at other market sectors for expansion and has an option to buy the remaining 30% of the company's shares in the next three years.
Mayne Nickless' managing director Ian Webber says: "This acquisition is part of the company's strategy to further develop its interests in Europe, particularly in light of the challenges and opportunities which will be presented with the Single European Market scheduled for 1992. It will add to the scope of our European transport operations and give us access to the emerging markets of the Eastern Bloc." E Former Federal Express vice-president Colin Nlillbanks has been appointed chief executive of Parceline. He takes over from Peter Cheeseman, who had held the post temporarily, in his position as Mayne Nickless' senior executive for worldwide parcels.
