AAs the holder of an 0 licence you should know what form is uitable for the logging of main enance records. If they are not being :ept in an acceptable manner already 7ou are running the risk of being ailed before your appropriate _icensing Authority under Section i9 of the Transport Act 1968.

The Tester's Manual, obtainable rom the DoE and HMSO, is the )asis for compiling records which vould refer to preventive mainenance inspection on which the A insists. But you must record 'emedial work one as the LA's !xaminers will want to know not )nly what defects were found but Os° how and when they were remeiied.

Moreover, you should provide a locument for drivers to report any iefects — a verbal report is in;ufficient. In fact if a driver has lothing to report he should say just' :hat; and reports should be handed in lady and filed for reference.

You should also provide some 'orm of visual reference. A wall chart — you should be able to get one from in oil company quite easily could ;how when your vehicle is due to have .reventive maintenance. checks.

Drivers' records are governed by he Drivers' Hours (Goods Vehicles) 'Keeping of Records) Regulations 1970. From this you will see that not only must ybur vehicle not proceed more than 2. miles from base but your driver ust not drive more than four hours or the exemption to apply.

Ask you local DoE office for a copy it's free — of A Guide to Domes ic Goods Vehicle Drivers' Hours nd Records.
