TEN prototypes of a lowcost, very economical tractive unit are being tested by Ryder Truck Rental, the big US rental and leasing group, and if successful the model — the Paymaster — will be added to the UK fleet as soon as production permits.
Payload
The Paymaster has a 20 tonne (19.6ton) payload and is claimed to return 2.55 km/ l (7.2 mpg) at 88 km/ h average. It is said to cost less than comparable production on vehicles.
