Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

an 18-ton payload on contract work involving about 800 miles weekly. I intend to apply for a B licence for the purpose. What is the likely operating cost?

A Table 6 of the CM Tables of Operating

Costs sets out in detail the operating cost of an articulated goods vehicle with a payload of 18 tons. When averaging 800 miles a week the total operating cost per mile is shown as 30.54d. Because of the recent Budget announcement approximately 1.30d per mile has to be added for the increase in licence duty and fuel tax with a resulting total of 31.84d a mile.

However, the calculation of operating costs for this 18-tonner was based on a capital outlay of £5,580 and you would therefore have to add to the total just given, the cost of interest charges on the additional outlay of the specialized body you mentioned. after` such additional cost has been expressed as a cost per mile.

But regarding your intentions to apply for a B licence we would point out that as the Transport Bill now before Parliament contains proposals which would abolish the present carrier's licensing system, i.e. A. B and C licensing, it would seem prudent to await 'the final drafting of the resulting Act before entering into any financial commitments in connection with your proposals.
