I. M. Smith, secretary and accountant of the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd., Gateshead, has joined the headquarters staff of BET. His successor with the Northern is N. Crawford.
James Forster has been appointed a director of Northern General Transport Co. Ltd., succeeding W. M. Danvers who has resigned. Mr. Forster, who joined the company in 1922, is also on the boards of its subsidiaries, the Gateshead and District, Sunderland District, Tyneside, Tynemouth District and Wakefield companies, and he continues as general manager for each of them.
Paul K. Richards, 44, has been appointed deputy managing director of John Thompson (Transporter Division) Ltd. Hailing from South Wales, Mr. Richards has been with the company for 20 years and has held various senior executive positions in the engineering, design and contracts departments. In 1966 he became technical adviser to the John Thompson main board.
Alan McFarlin has been elected 1968/9 chairman of the Sussex section of the Institute of Transport, in succession to W. G. A. Hall, the present chairman. Mr. McFarlin is director of the new PD Wharfage and Transport company—a member of the Powell Duffryn Group—and primarily responsible for the operations of Correll Transport. And Correll fleet engineer W. R. Elliott has been elected chairman of the Southern centre of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers.
G. M. Newberry and S. J. B. Skyrme, BET executive directors, have been appointed, respectively, to the boards of Cumberland Motor Services Ltd. and Brighton Hove and District Omnibus Co. Ltd., companies in the Tilling Bus Group.
Stanton Bell, 36, has been appointed sales promotion executive of York Trailer Co. Ltd., with special responsibilities for the accounts of York Truck Equipment Ltd. and York Technical Services Ltd.
