Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

steady increase

• Truck registrations continued to climb in February with an increase of nearly 12% over the same period last year. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, 2,894 trucks and artics over 3.5 tonnes were registered in February, compared to 2,585 last year.

The increase boosts year-todate figures by 10.84%, from 4,928 in January-February 1993 to 5,462 this year.

Iveco Ford took pole position from Mercedes-Benz by registering 650 trucks and artics, compared with 810 last year. Leyland Daf followed closely behind by registering 507 trucks over 3.5 tonnes: Mercedes-Benz dropped to third position with 490 registrations, compared with 451 in February

• The Post Office is to push for the privatisation of its parcels and letters businesses following the Government's ruling out of more commercial freedom for the organisation within the public sector.

The campaign will increase the odds of selling Royal Mail and Parcelforce as well as Post Office Counters but Parliamentary time limits mean the Government will now have to move swiftly if it chooses to privatise the businesses. The push follows comments made last week by Stephen Dorrell, the Treasury's Financial Secretary, who said if the Post Office's three businesses remain state-owned they will not be allowed more financial and commercial freedom.

The Post Office has repeatedly called for more flexibility—in or out of the public sector— since the Department of Trade and Industry began a review 20 months ago of its future owenership.
