A BRITISH Standard specification for diesel engines is nearly completed, said Government spokesman Lord Shepherd in the Upper House last week.
This standard included methods of measuring power, a prerequisite for determining power/ weight ratios Present plans for type approval of new goods vehicles envisaged that a minimum power/ weight ratio would be one of the requirements to be imposed.
It was hoped that it would be possible to begin imposing type approval requirements in 1970.
