PROFITABILITY was no longer an accept
able norm for measuring efficiency of a public transport organization, Mr. Conor Clune, area manager of Coras Iompair Eireann, told the Institute of Transport, Cork District Group, on Monday.
One of the major management responsibilities was to get universal recognition that public transport, while being a business, was a social service as much as the police or post.
Transport management also had the task of convincing its staff of this dual role.
