Chiltern area, London and Home Counties division: Chairman, W. Coulter; Vice-chairmen, T. Ascot, E. G. Burman, G. E. Collins, A. L. Lambert and g. V. Pohlman.

These changes to the board of Rootes Motors Ltd. are announced: R. W. Hammond resigns from the board and retires froM his position as financial director after 38 years' service with the Group. The Hon. Brian Rootes, T. D. Rootes and D. Meinertzhagen resign from the board. Mr. Brian Rootes will also shortly relinquish his executive position with the company after 27 years' service. Mr. T. D. Rootes will continue as an executive as divisional managing director, sales and distribution. Appointed directors are: Bernard Boxall (as representative of the Industrial Re-Organization Corporation), E. H. Graham, Georges Hereil, Sir Eric Roll and W. J. Tate. A new managing director will shortly be appointed. Meanwhile the chairman, Lord Rootes, will also act as managing director.

D. V. Humphris has been appointed general manager of the materials handling division of Charrold Ltd. His father, C. P. Humphris was with the Charrington group for 15 years as chief engineer. He was also a director.

The Transport Holding Company announces that Walter R. Alexander has assumed the office of director and chairman of its two subsidiary companies Harold Wood and Sons Ltd. and Spen Coachbuilders Ltd., in succession to John Hindle who has resigned. Mr. Alexander is chairman of Tayforth Ltd.

E. Mitchell has been appointed to the TRTA vehicle inspection staff, based in Manchester. He was a Ministry of Transport vehicle examiner. The RHA express carriers group has elected H. A. Russett chairman. Vice-chairmen are P. R. Packham and K. Fitzmaurice, with R. H. Farmer as National Executive Council representative.

Barrie M. Jennings, rolling-stock engineer with Aberdeen Corporation Transport Depart ment, has been appointed chief engineer of Wallace Arnold (Tours) Ltd. with effect from May I.

J. A. R. Johnston has been appointed manager of the Grays branch, BRS tank haulage department.

Donald B. Hunt has been appointed to the board of Clayton Dewandre Holdings Ltd. He joined the Group from the Port of London Authority last summer as financial controller.

OBITUARY

We regret to record the death of Francis Ward.

Mr. Ward, 58, transport manager of Charles Alexander and Partners (Transport) Ltd., hauliers, was killed on March 1 when his car skidded on ice at Scotston Corner, on the StonehavenLaurencekirk road. and struck a tree.
