Follower Plate for Grease Pump

ACIRCULAR follower plate which fits on the tube of an air-operated pump and will follow the grease level in the drum has been introduced by Teealemit, Ltd., Plymouth. Designed for use with the Tecatemit T.B.H. high-pressure grease pump, it is intended that the plate is used with the 100/130-lb. range of drums which have a 14-in.-diameter open top.

It is said that some heavy fibrous and multi-purpose greases are known to cause problems of cavitation, and the follower plate -is intended to eliminate this possibility. In addition a seal is provided between the pump barrel and the drum shell and displacement of the grease during pumping creates a suction beneath the follower plate, thus drawing it down and taking with it the grease which otherwise would adhere to the pump tube and drum shell.

The part number of the plate is 0A.6887 and it is priced at £3 18s. 9d. net.

Paint Stripper

A NEW hot-liquid paint stripper r't NEW primarily for stripping the more difficult synthetic resin paint finishes such as epoxy-based materials and similar highly resistant enamels, has been developed by the Orcene Co., Ltd., Victoria Street, Warwick. The new product, known as Orpi H-L stripper, is a highly alkaline liquid, and includes synthetic additives to break down the paint film, which is then disintegrated by the alkali content.

Orpi H-L stripper is used at the highest possible temperature and, as it contains a certain amount of water, any evaporation is easily replaceable so that the solution can be retained at a constant level. It is recommended only for iron and steel parts, as it would have adverse effects on non-ferrous metals,

Safer Crane Booms QAFETY devices, in the form of boom stops, are essential to protect a crane boom pivoting back over the cab if the toad is suddenly released or falls from the slings. This ninimizes the risk of damageto the boom and gives sufficient time for any personnel vho are in the danger zone to withdraw o safety. Hydracheck hydraulic shock absorbers arc fitted in pairs, and the speed of movement and degree to which shock is absorbed are adjusted by two screws.

In principle the Hydracheck is a double-acting hydraulic unit consisting of a cylinder, a safety piston and a hollow piston rod acting as an oil reservoir. A valve block is fitted which incorporates a relief valve and choke. The relief valve comes into operation when there is excessive shock ar d also acts as a check valve when the boom is being lowered.

P.A.Y.E. Calculator

PAA DEVICE for reducing the time and energy spent on calculating P.A.Y.E. and Graduated National Insurance deductions has been developed by Skirden Products, Ltd, of 25 Buckingham Gate, London. S.W.I. Called the Clayton P.A.Y.E. Tax Slide. it is designed in the form of a slide rule in such a way as to enable deductions to be read off at a glance. Skirden Products claim that the slide reduces time employed on P.A.Y.E. work from two minutes per employee to 30 seconds on three weeks out of four, and considerably reduces the risk of error by dispensing with the normal system of calculations and reference to tax tables in these weeks.

rtIINTON ; PAYE. ITAXM Code numbers range from one to 182.

The tax slide costs 30s. The makers state that, in the event of changes in P.A.Y.E. in the 1961 Budget, a revised centre slider will be supplied free of charge.
