THERE is unlikely to be a publicly
sponsored industrial pipeline system in this country. Mr. Richard Wood, the Minister of Power, made this clear when he announced in the Commons on Monday that legislation is to be introduced to secure the orderly development of privately owned pipelines.
Replying to Labour M.P.s who suggested that a public authority should be given the power to go ahead with pipelines, Mr. Wood said: "There is a great

The new measures could not be passed during the present session of Parliament. but the Government appreciated the need for quick progress, said the Minister.
Mr. Wood emphasized the Government's opposition to the Private Bill, now before the Commons, which provides for a pipeline from Canvey Island to Denham, Bucks.
INVESTING IN HAULAGE
A NOTHER venture into road haulage for Norcros, Ltd., the industrial investment concern who acquired Harold Wood and Sons, the tanker hauliers, last November. They have purchased 51 per cent, of the issued capital of a Canadian haulage company, Bulk Carriers, of Toronto, who have about 150 tankers which are used mainly for the carriage of chemicals.
