From our Parliamentary Correspondent
THE Minister of Transport has decided not to set up an independent public inquiry into London Transport.
Stating this in the Commons last week, he explained that since the proposal for the inquiry had been put forward there had been a very substantial improvement in the bus services. Manpower had -increased by some 1,200 in the past four months, and three-fifths of the mileage lost for lack of crews had been made good.
His announcement did not entirely satisfy two London Labour M.P.s who have taken a leading part in the demand for an inquiryâMr. Eric Fletcher (Islington. East) and Mr. R. J. Mellish (Bermondsey).
" There is still great dissatisfaction, said Mr. Fletcher.
