vVAGES of bus drivers are now nearly three times the immediate pre-war rate. Mr. Peter Thomas, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour, said in the Commons last week that if the average of recognized rates for bus or tram drivers in 39 large towns were
c18 represented by 100 in July, 1939, the rate in February of this year was 297. The comparable figure for conductors: 304, These figures, said Mr. Thomas, compared with 325 for railway engine drivers on minimum pay and 289 for those on maximum.
