THERE was enough work in the , bodybuilding industry in Northern Ireland for all companies to be working full time for the next 10 years, said Mr. Mackie, chief engineer of Belfast Transport Department, at the annual dinner of the National Employers' Association of Vehicle Builders Ulster Branch, in Belfast recently.
He remarked that the Ulster Transport Authority controlled only 1,600 public service vehicles and 1,000 goods vehicles out of 16,000 in the area, and he said that it was not its policy to take trade away from the individual. The outlook for bodybuilders was good, but it was necessarl,r to keep prices down and to decide carefully whether to increase the size of premises and overhead charges. He urged the greater production of all-metal bodies.
MORE TEETH IN DUNLOP TAXI TYRE
'THE Dunlop concern has produced a 1 new tyre for taxicabs, which embodies two safety features to give better road-holding when the surface is slippery. It has 2,000 more "teeth" than previously, and an extension of the knife-cut idea makes skids less likely. In addition, the life is lengthened by a wider tread, which wears more evenly, and its deeper pattern lasts as long as the tyre. Load distribution is improved by varying the width of the ribs.
