• The Garage Equipment Association is to break away from the SMMT from 1July.
The association says the move reflects its members' disatisfaction with SMMT fees.
As well as setting its own subscription rates the GEA plans to simply its structure and recruit more members. For the time being it will remain in Forbes House, paying the SMMT for the services it uses Jim Wright takes over the presidency of the GEA from Fred Bird; Ron Critchlow has been elected vice-president of the European Garage Equipment Association.
