B.T.C. and Disposal Board Suspend Decisions on Tenders for Transport Units.

THE British Transport Commission and the Road Haulage Disposal Board announced on Monday that, because of the railway strike, decisions on tenders for transport units offered

in list 10 would be temporarily suspended. Tenders closed on May 25 (the day before the General Election). Meanwhile, the Licensing Authorities are continuing to grant special A licences for vehicles sold by British Road Services. The names of purchasers in nine areas are given below.

SCOTLAND

A first purchase involving seven lorries (29 tons) has been made by John D. Burns and Co., Perth.

Two-vehicle purchases have been made by Mr. James K. Allan, Newarthill (8 tons), and Mr. Sam Anderson, Newhouse (84 tons).

Another three lorries (94 tons) have gone to Messrs. James Galloway and Sons, Flarthill, and a lorry (61 tons) and a trailer to Moore's Motors (Ayr), Ltd., Ayr. Messrs. John &stile and Sons. Auchtermuchty, have had a lorry (3 tons) made over to them by Mr. William M. Tripney, Grangemouth.

NORTHERN AREA

Nineteen lorries (67 tons 7 cwt.) .and two trailers based at Newcastle upon Tyne have been acquired by Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham. One of the lorries (4 tons 11 cwt.) has been assigned to Harcoden, Ltd.. 11 Nicholas Street, Burnley, and reassigned to Messrs. P. and C. Young, Travellers Rest, Consett, and one (3 tons 9 cwt.) to Messrs, E. Nelson and Sons, Trafalgar Garage, Arnside.

McPhee's (Newcastle), Ltd„ City Road Garage, Newcastle upon Tyne, 1, have taken over four lorries (26 tons 11 cwt.) in a repeat purchase.

Other repeat purchasers are Mr. W. R. Brailsford, Amside, via Carnforth, Lancs. (two vehicles-151 tons); Messrs. T. Park and Sons, Roachburn, Tindale Fell. Carlisle (two-7 tons); Mr. A. N. Oliver, 40 Larch Street, Newcastle upon Tyne (one-21 tons) assigned by Mr. E. Waters, 13 Woodteigh Road. Monkseaton; and Cribbs Transport Co„ 55 Swaledale Avenue, Darlington (two —9 tons 1 cwt.) assigned by Messrs. V. C. Cribb and T. W. GeIdard, of the same address.

Mr. W. Mulholland, Swifts Mews, Carlisle, has made a first purchase, comprising three lorries (8 tons 12 cwt.). A lorry, weighing 2 tons 17 cwt. unladen, has gone to Tyneside Transport Co., Calls Buildings, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne, and one (6 tons 19 cwt.), assigned by Hacketts Haulage, Ltd., 229 Cross Lane, Salford, to Messrs. John Wardley and Sons, Slaclelsead, Milnthorpe.

YORKSHIRE

Mr. F. E. Leighton, Station Road, Settle, has been successful with a tender for one vehicle.

An articulated vehicle has been made over to Mr. W, Fletcher, 410 Wincomlee, Hull. by Mr. E. Crabtree, Queensbury Road, Bradford.'

Other assignments reported by our Yorkshire correspondent are: a lorry to Mr. S. , F. Andrews, 39 Banmoor Road, Sheffield, 10, by Mr. T. Fagan, 81 Ridgeway Road. Sheffield, 12; one to John Butcher and Co., Ltd., 212 Barnsley Road, Cudworth, by Pemberton Butcher, Ltd., of the same address; and one to Mr. A. E. Hodgson, Brayshaw Yard, Dick Lane, Bradford, by South Leeds Haulage Co., Ltd., 84 Low Road, Leeds, 10.

Mr. G. Criston, Irongate Arches, Copeland Road. London, S.E.15, has taken over a vehicle (2 tons 19 cwt.) from the Special Traffics Division of British Road Services, D26 The Yorkshire Licensing Authority has granted a licence to Mr. J. Emtnens, address not known, for two lorries (5 tons 16 cwt.).

Mr. P. Callery, 45 Springfield Place, Leeds, 3, who was recently reported (The Commercial Motor, May 20) to have had a vehicle made over to him by R. H. Millner, Ltd., Station Garage, Kirkham, Lanes, acquired the vehicle direct from B.R.S. It had an unladen weight of 4 tons 1 cwt.

WEST MIDLANDS

Five lorries (244 tons) have been taken over by Glyn:tees Transport, Ltd., 4 Bars Common Road. Walsall, in a repeat purchase. Shephard and Hough, Ltd., Earlswood, near Birmingham, have also bought another five lorries (151 tons). Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham, has bought four more vehicles (154 tons). Based at West Bromwich, they include an articulated outfit (5/ tons).

Direct purchases of transport units have also been made by Mr. G. R. Owen, Lee Brockhurst, Shrewsbury (two vehicles61 tons); Messrs. Marshall's Transport, High Street. Badsey, near Evesham (one —31 tons); and Mr, K. Ralph, Hallowdene, Rushwick, Worcester (one-44 tons). Assignments authorized by the West Midland Licensing Authority are: six vehicles (281 tons) by Hall Transport (Willenhall), Ltd., Short Heath, Willenhall, to J. Brevitt, Ltd,, Wolverhampton Road, Willenhall; one (3/ tons) by Mr. G. H. Powell, Pentaloe, Mordiford, Hereford, to Messrs. Clarke and Son, Yew Tree, Portshill, Ross-on-Wye; one (3 tons) by Mrs. G. M. Rigby, Wheatsheaf Inn, High Street, Tunstall, to Messrs. Hancock's Haulage, 145 Milton Road. Sncyd Green, Hanky; one (3 tons) by C. R. Lockyer, Ltd., 41 Howsell Road, Malvern Link, to Lorkyer's Transport, Ltd., of the same address; one (Si tons) by Messrs. J.A.N. Transport, 297 Corporation Street, Birmingham, to Messrs. S. and L. Transport, The Firs, Shatterford, near Bewdley, Wores; and one (54 tons) by Mr. N. Beech. Hope Street, Hanley, to Messrs. J. and A. Turnock, Brick Kiln Lane, Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent.

EAST MIDLANDS

A further 13 vehicles, including an articulated outfit, and two trailers (58 tons 1 cwt.) have been taken over by Mr. J. Brindley. The Close. Sharnford, Hinckley. Mr. Brindley has now transferred a lorry (31 tons) to Hamblins Suppliers, Ltd.; one (3 tons 3 cwt.) to Messrs. Whitmore and Hickin, 54 Leicester Road, Whitwick; one (3 tons 8 cwt.) to Mr. R. T. Cardo, Laburnum, Oak Street, Kingsvinford; one

(3 tons) to K. and D. Transport Co., Ltd., 15 Harcourt Square, Earls Barton; one (3 tons 6 cwt.) to Bee's Transport (Hinckley), Ltd., London Road, Ilinckley; one (4 tons 8 cwt.) to Messrs. Hill's Transport, Lake Terrace, Melton Mowbray; one (4 tons 3 cwt.) to Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston; five lorries and the trailers (28 tons 8 cwt.) to Mr. L. Twelve more vehicles, including two articulated outfits (45 tons 18 cwt..), have gone to Hamblins Suppliers, Ltd. One of the lorries (4 tons) was transferred by Mr, R. S. Hainblin. 203 Leicester Road, Thur. maston, Leicester.

Apart from the transactions with Mr. Brindley reported above, Hamblins Suppliers have assigned vehicles to the following: one (3 tons 8 cwt.) to Messrs. P. Partrick and Son. Rounds Road. In addition to the lorry taken over from Mr. Brindley, Murphy Bros., Ltd., have had special A licences granted to them for a further five lorries (174 tons), four of which (14 tons 9 cwt.) were taken over from Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough.

Murphy Bros. have now, transferred a lorry (2 tons 6 cwt.) to Mr. J. Marriott, in the West Midland Traffic Area; one (3/ tons) to Messrs. E. Luther and Sons, in the Metropolitan, Area ; and one (4 tons 3 cwt.) to Murphy Bros, (Transport Division), Ltd., 6 Selbourne Street, Loughborough.

Seven lorries (26 tons 13 cwt.) bought by Kay's (Derby), Ltd., Ashbourne Road. Derby, have been transferred. Three of them (11 tons 8 cwt.) have gone to Mr. W. H. Phillips, Wirksworth; one (4 tons) to Ascott Motors, Ltd., 4 Bloomfield Street, Derby; one (31 tons) to Messrs. Stone and Ogan, Alfreton Road, Derby; one (4 tons) to IIlsley Bros., Victoria Avenue, Borrowwash, Derby; and one

(4 tons) to William IL Short (Contractors), Ltd., 2 Mansfield Road, Market Place, Eastwood.

The lorry taken over by William H. Short (Contractors), Ltd., has been reassigned to Mr. A. Rhodes, 261 Carlton Road, Nottingham, who, in turn, has now transferred it to Mr. L. Amos, 107 Bradford Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. Mr. Rhodes has also made over a lorry (3 tons) to Mr. J. H. Pegg, Pelham Street, Mansfield; one (3 tons) to Messrs. J. W. Watson and Sons, 65 Newlyn Drive, Nottingham; one (2 tons 19 cwt.) to Messrs. DabeU Motors, Gotham; one

(2 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. G. W. Reeve, The Common, Barclney; and one (2 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. H. J. Collington, Brookhouse Farm, Wymeswold, near Loughborough. Messrs. V. and A. Towler, 2 Council Houses. Ulceby, near Alford, have also taken over a lorry (2 tons 13 cwt.) from Mr. V. J. Grange.

Todd, High Street Garage, Whitchurch, near Aylesbury, one (4 tons 12 cwt.); Mr. H. Shaw, 28 Westfield Avenue, Marlpool, Heanor, one (71 tons); Clayton's (Transport), Ltd., 36-42 Stafford Street, Leicester, one (4 tons 19 cwt.); Mr. E. E. Hopley, 237 Markfield Lane. J. Clark (Carriers), Ltd., Dudley Street. Docks, Cardiff, have transferred an articulated outfit (8 tons) from a special A licence to an ordinary A licence.

A lorry and a trailer (41 tons) have been acquired by Mr. G. W. Denham, Pyle Hill Farm, Fairoak, Eastleigh.

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES

Two (71 tons) of four lorries (141 tons) bought by Mr. A. Firmin, Wares Farm, Linton, have been transferred to Mr. G. Bosnian, Fanleigh Lane, Earning, Maidstone.

Another Maidstone operator, Mr. W. E. Reeve, The Garage, Bluett, has transferred two lorries (6 tons) to Mrs. H. M. Reeve, of the same address.

Messrs. Scott's Transport, 20 Water Lane, Faversham, have taken over a vehicle weighing 71 tons unladen.

Mr. J. Wood, 4 Oakwood Avenue, London, N.14, has bought two lorries (5 tons 7 cwt.). Mr. T. Curtis, 194 Kingsley Road, Hounslow, Middx, one (3 tons); and D. Duff, Lid., 22 St. George's Road, London, S.W.19, one (I ton 2 cwt.).
