THE formation of a Midland Passenger Transport Board, similar to the London Transport Executive. to co-ordinate road and railway services in the Midlands was suggested last week by Mr. E. J. Dodd, Chief Constable of Birmingham. Speaking at Sutton Coldfield, he said that a better service could be given if transport services co-operated instead of competed with each other: "Anything that can be done to attract people off the road in this area is obviously it the interests of everyone," he commented. Those who went to Birmingham for business travelled much too frequently4by road. Since the railway strike began it had been shown that only 32,000 people, or 6 per cent., of the working population of Birmingham travelled to the city by train. Faster passenger trains should be provided to attract people journeying into and out of Birmingham and thereby alleviate road congestion.
