large-scale redundancies inevitable' at Macfarlane
MACFARLANE TRANSPORT called in the administrators last week, blaming rising fuel costs and an increasingly competitive market.
The Leeds-based haulier's 300 staff are likely to be made redundant after the company was unable to find a buyer.
Macfarlane was founded in 1978, and grew to become a well-known haulage operator with 100 trucks and a turnover of £20m. K.PMG Restructuring was called into handle the administration on 2 July. Joint administrator Richard Fleming says: "An ongoing sale of the business has been energetically sought, but was not achievable.
"It's very unfortunate that this longestablished business has been unable to survive and that large-scale redundancies will be inevitable as a result."
