For more than 30 years I have been involved in haulage. In all this time I have seen many changes. some for the better, some for the worse. Most UK hauliers now run modern, well-maintained fleets. This is as a result of better enforcement and changing attitudes.
We as a group have carried everything that we sit in, sleep in, eat in, drive in, and live in. So, here's the point of my letter... when is this giant going to wake up? One week would stop the country, two would cripple it.
This action will have to be taken by the hauliers, for the hauliers. The various trade organisations, of which I am a member, have been pitiful in their efforts.
So now it has to be our turn. Let's tell the Government that enough is enough and we can't take any more. It's our industry, so let's fight for it. John Murphy Redgate Holdings
