Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE PROBLEMS of finding somewhere to park up at night is getting worse and worse.

There are far too few sites around, and often when they are available, they're too costly.

Using motorway services at anything between £15 and £20 per night is not viable, especially as an owner-driver, and even more so considering fuel prices are currently going off the scale.

However, a possible solution has occurred to me, which, admittedly, won't suit all.

There are farms all over the country that have reasonable-sized yards. Surely it isn't beyond the abilities of the Road Haulage Association and National Farmers Union to get together and, with the help of farmers, develop a database of farms willing to offer overnight parking.

To avoid farmyards getting overcrowded, there would have to be a means whereby drivers could ring a farm to find out if they had room.

It could help a lot of us to find somewhere safe to park up for the night, and also make life better for some residential areas that currently get used as lorry parks — as long as the farmers didn't decide to get too greedy.

A fiver to park in a farmyard for the night would seem reasonable, and perhaps another £5 if there was a cooked breakfast on offer.
