SMALLER HAULIERS risk getting caught out by the introduction of the Euro-6 emissions standard, which comes into force in less than a year's time, according to exclusive CM research.
The research, taken from the UK Commercial Vehicle Operator Report (produced in association with Texaco lubricants), reveals that almost half (46%) of smaller haulage fleets (five to 25 vehicles) have given no thought to the imposition of Euro-6 from January 2014. This is in stark contrast to medium (26-50) and larger (51+) players, where almost three-quarters and more than two-thirds respectively have put in place a Euro-6 policy.
Overall, 39% of operators said Euro-6 would not affect their vehicle purchasing strategy. However, 20%, crucially the larger players that will be buying significant volumes of Euro-5 vehicles, intend to pull their buying cycles forward to cocoon themselves from the need to buy the pricier Euro-6s.
