Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Up to E20,000 per annum

Coventry City Council has recently undertaken a review of the maintenance and management of its total vehicle and plant fleet, which comprises some 600 vehicles and 500 items of plant.

As a result, it has been decided to set up a centralised transport management function on the lines of a commercial 'contract hire' company. This will entail transferring responsibility for all aspects of transport provision, i.e. acquisition, maintenance, licensing, insurance, etc. to a Central Transport Organisation — Client Departments will then hire the vehicles and plant necessary to carry out their respective functions, on a commercial basis. We are therefore looking for a Transport Services Manager to lead the development of the new unit and to implement and manage all of the changes that will be necessary to achieve this objective.

As the 'Business Manager' of the unit it will be down to you to build a strong team to ensure value for money in the provision of transport services to the Authority.

If you have sound managerial experience but want a greater challenge with increased responsibility and autonomy — if you have flair and are a good organiser and communicator — if you are committed to the commercial approach — we would like to hear from you.

Experience of transport services, whilst desirable, is not essential if the above qualities can be clearly demonstrated.

We offer a starting salary of c£18,000, although for the exceptional candidate we would be prepared to consider a salary of up to approximately £20,000. There is also the possibili of future development of the role which could lead to a review of salary in due course. A relocation package of up to £2,500 is also available to meet the costs of moving house, if necessary.

Application forms and further details are available from the Head of Manpower Services, Ground Floor, Christchurch House, Greyfriars Lane, Coventry CV1 2QL. Telephone (0203) 25555, extension 2517. Closing date: 26th January 1987.

We welcome applications from men and women regardless of disability, race or marital status.
