• I am a HGV fitter for the Matteson Walls meat company and would like to report that all fitters and drivers in the transport department were told in mid-December that we are to lose our jobs in March, 1987.
Matteson Walls has been a very good company to work
for. Indeed I have spent seventeen years there, so I am to say the least disappointed with this news. MW has passed all its trunking transport work to Wincanton Contracts and Christian Salvesen, both of which are buying new Mercedes for the job. These two companies have told us that they will employ some of the drivers but these will have to be based at Warrington at the Salvesen Depot.
It is important to publicise the fact that there will be a number of trained workers like myself who understand the fridge transport industry and who will be looking for work as from March.
