Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CLYDE Port Authority is opening its new £2.5m Greenock container terminal in midJanuary, bringing a new transportation pattern to this area. The services of the existing temporary Glasgow terminal will be transferred to Greenock where yet further development is planned to make the best possible use of the deep-water dock facilities. The terminal will be the main Scottish west coast container outlet, and will work round the clock, providing 12-hour clearance of specially designed container ships.

It is anticipated that substantial volumes of whisky traffic to the USA, which now pass through Glasgow, or are shipped by conventional methods through other ports, will be handled. Whisky is a particularly suitable commodity for container trade work and expectations are that this flow will develop. It is also planned to increase general cargo on containerized lines.

Haulage men in central and western Scotland have been planning ahead over the past year to prepare for the increase in traffic movement which the development will bring about, and are now in a position to provide an excellent service. Adequate rail facilities are available through the Glasgow Freightliner terminal. Our detailed report on the Greenock development will appear shortly.
